About the Number to Words

Cheques, invoices, receipts and legal documents need the amount written in words. Type a number to get it in words instantly, in the South Asian system (thousand, lakh, crore, arab) or the international system (thousand, million, billion).

Choose Rupees and paisa (or dollars, pounds, dirhams, riyals) and add “Only” at the end, as banks expect on cheques. The number is also shown with correct comma grouping for both systems.

How to use the Number to Words

  1. Type the number or amount, with or without commas.
  2. Choose the number system, currency and letter case.
  3. Copy the words. Always double-check before writing a cheque.

How it works

The number is split into groups. International: groups of three digits (thousand, million, billion…). South Asian: the last three digits, then groups of two (thousand, lakh, crore, arab, kharab). Each group is written in words and joined. Paisa/cents are the first two decimal digits, rounded.

Examples

  • 1,250,000.50 as Rupees → Twelve Lakh Fifty Thousand Rupees and Fifty Paisa Only (12,50,000.50).
  • The same number internationally → One Million Two Hundred Fifty Thousand.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write 1 crore in figures?

1 crore = 1,00,00,000 in the lakh system, which is 10,000,000 (ten million) internationally.

Should I write “and” before the last part?

Banks in Pakistan accept the amount without “and” between hundreds and tens. “and” is used here only between rupees and paisa.
