Average Calculator

Find the mean, median, mode, range and standard deviation of a list of numbers.

Paste a column from Excel or Google Sheets — it works too.

Runs in your browser — your data never leaves your device.

About the Average Calculator

Paste or type any list of numbers — test marks, daily sales, prices, measurements — separated by commas, spaces or new lines. The calculator shows the average and the other common statistics at once.

The mean is the usual average. The median is the middle value and is less affected by a few very large or small numbers. The mode is the value that appears most often.

How to use the Average Calculator

  1. Type or paste your numbers, separated by commas, spaces or new lines.
  2. Click Calculate average.

Formula

Mean = sum ÷ count.

Median = middle value after sorting (the average of the two middle values when the count is even).

Mode = the most frequent value(s).

Range = maximum − minimum.

Standard deviation (population) = √(Σ(x − mean)² ÷ n); sample standard deviation divides by n − 1.

Examples

  • 72, 85, 90, 66, 85 → mean 79.6, median 85, mode 85, range 24.
  • 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 → mean 18, median 15.5.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste numbers from Excel?

Yes. Copy a column or row from a spreadsheet and paste it — new lines and tabs are understood.

Should I use the population or sample standard deviation?

Use population when your list includes every value (for example all students in a class). Use sample when the list is a sample of a larger group.
