Sort Lines

Sort lines A–Z, Z–A, by number or length, reverse or shuffle them.

Runs in your browser — your data never leaves your device.

About the Sort Lines

Put names, words, file names or numbers in order. Alphabetical sorting uses natural order, so Item 2 comes before Item 10, and upper/lower case can be ignored.

You can also sort by the first number found in each line, by line length, reverse the list, or shuffle it fairly — handy for draws and random order.

How to use the Sort Lines

  1. Paste your list, one item per line.
  2. Choose the sort order and options.
  3. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file. For Random shuffle, click Shuffle again for a new order.

How it works

Alphabetical sorting uses your browser's language-aware comparison with numeric collation. Numeric sorting reads the first number in each line (commas allowed); lines without a number go last. Shuffling uses the Fisher–Yates method with cryptographic random numbers, so every order is equally likely.

Examples

  • Item 10, Item 2, item 1 → item 1, Item 2, Item 10.
  • Lines 250, 1,500 and 75 sorted as numbers, largest first → 1,500 · 250 · 75.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent to your server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded or stored.

Is the shuffle really random?

Yes. It uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, which is suitable for fair draws.
